Who is a Whobist? (Blue Baer) is part of Simon Fujiwara's series that reinterprets iconic and historically significant works of art through the portrayal of Who the Bær, the artist's enigmatic cartoon character. This pastel on a medium-large rounded canvas serves as a cubist-style portrait of Who. Following the cubist principle of representing three-dimensional subjects through geometric shapes on a two-dimensional canvas, Who maintains his distinctive features here: round, floppy ears, a pointed nose, and a long, honey-slobbering tongue. Despite its direct reference to the cubist movement, the painting's use of pure color and the round frame shape may also resonate with Robert and Sonia Delaunay's pictorial exploration of abstraction, creating a sense of rhythm and movement within static, colorful shapes.
