Takis’ work is characterised by an interaction between artistic form and scientific phenomenon. Previous pieces experimented with the energy of magnetic fields, and here Takis has turned to exploring the kinetic energy of the wind. The Signal Éolien is a mechanical appa- ratus working on a similar principle to the wind turbine. Its blades move randomly, in accordance with the strength and direction of the wind, rendering a natural phenomenon visible and establishing a dialogue between this monumental work and its surroundings. The natural elements activate and contribute to the poetry of Takis’ work, which is thus freed from the traditional stasis of sculpture.
