A worthy heir to the Duchampian legacy, Subodh Gupta collects everyday objects to make his sculptures and installations, often monumental. These objects allude to Indian culture and the social and political realities of the country. They also reflect on the medium of metal both in terms of its symbolic value and the technical and artistic skill it requires. DOOT II, an aluminum replica of the famous “Ambassador Car”, whose production has stopped in 2014, is a long-term emblem of post-colonial India for tourists.
